NON METALLIC MINERAL DEPOSITS OF NEPAL AND THEIR UTILIZATION

Several non-metallic mineral deposits are explored and exploited in Nepal. Three cement industries of small to medium size are based on the limestone deposits. Kharidunga magnesite deposit is one of the largest found in this region. Talc deposits are associated with Precambrian magnesite formation.Precambrian stromatolltic phosphorite deposits are of low grade. Gondwana and Tertiary coal seams are of poor quality.Small scale mines are developed for precious and semiprecious stones found in pegmatite and schist of Higher Himalaya.Huge reserve of construction materials are found in many parts of Nepal.
