Abstract: Hollow plastic fibers lined with metal and dielectric films that transmit carbon dioxide laser energy were evaluated for clinical use in upper airway surgery of the horse. These flexible waveguides were used both freehand and through the biopsy channel of an endoscope to incise, coagulate and vaporize tissues in the pharynx and larynx of 4 horses.!
