The main objectives of JAMSTEC are to understand changes in the deep seafloor from the past to the present, and the relationship between physical, chemical, biological, and geological phenomena accompanying those changes. These objectives are archived by using the deep sea survey system such as the manned deep submersible research vessel "SHINKAI 6500" and the unmanned remotely operated vehicle, "HYPER DOLPHIN". Research vessels such as the R/V "MIRAI" are used to examine the role played by the ocean in seasonal-to-decadal climate variability, and distinguish between natural variability and anthropogenic change typified by global warming. Since 1971, JAMSTEC has obtained many results from previous studies. Particularly, video image data has been obtained by more than 20,000 tapes from deep sea research surveys. As the main system, GODAC system has the following two database systems. (1) Database system for video images of deep sea research survey. (2) Database system for published by JAMSTEC. Before its public internet release, metadata was added by the technical staff at GODAC to both databases in order to aid in online searches. In this report, we describe the digital processing function. Including automatic synthesis of panoramic images (i.e. image mosaic), extraction of video shot changes (i.e. automatic segmentation), and the uniquely cooperating functions of image information and document databases.
