Process or practice: elements of an ethnographic orientation to process models

The argument I wish to develop in this paper is that although computer supported cooperative work is many things to many people, it contains a number of distinct perspectives itself which are not straightforwardly recruited to the process cause (Bannon, 1994). Indeed many of the assertions and assumptions which are seen as unproblematic by process perspectives may be challenged by some of the approaches within CSCW. In particular I wish to explore the ethnographic orientation which has become popular among some CSCW workers.
