A new technique sonoerosively shaping glass, ceramic or composite components is described. The process uses an oscillating tool at medium frequency and an abrasive slurry, which acts to transmit the mechanical vibrations of the tool against the machined surfaces. The procedure is nonthermal, nonchemical, nonelectric and creates hardly no changes to the mechanical properties of the brittle materials machined. For complete machining of complex components a bisectioned pair of sonotrodes is inaugurated.
