The author discusses the function of the consulting engineer as a site consultant in the construction of power transmission lines and substations. Various aspects of the site consultant's task are discussed and emphasis is placed upon the importance of the site consultant in acting as a go-between and mediator in the conflicting aims of the client and the contractor. Different types of construction contracts are mentioned with the site consultant's role in each. Several recommendations, which are based on practical hands-on experience are offered. The advantages of both the client and contractor for having a site consultant are discussed.
