This paper describes the physcial and mathematical modelling, of a 9 m span x 2.7 m deep wall beam constructed with particleborard and timber. In total, three models were developed. Because of labroatory space limitations the firstwas a truncation of the full size prottype wall. It was constructed to the design specification and successfully tsted to 5 times design load. A second, one third scale, model was built to validate thr first mode;l and its test method. The deformations observed on these models were geometrically similar. Finally, a finite element model was used to provide futrther insight into the bheaviour of the deep wal bejam. The behavuour of all three models matched one another reasonably well.
