The change in OCV with temperature was used to determine the sign of the entropy change and to estimate the entropy change in Li-ion cells at different levels of charge. It Is believed that this procedure will give Information about the way LI ions are situated in the anode carbon of Li ion cells. At all states of charge a negative dV/dT slope was observed which means that entropy changes were negative for all states of charge. The long term objective of this work is to develop a method for correlating estimated entropy changes in carbons with long cycling capability as Li-ion electrodes at early stages of cycle life.
