Abstract: Cryosurgical ablation of the prostate is a technique that has been enhanced by recent technological advances such as transrectal ultrasonography and fiber optics. Preliminary information suggests that it can be performed safely with less morbidity than the literature previously records. Our preliminary results consist of six patients. No complications have been noted in eight cases (2 patients were done twice). Prostatic biopsy on two of the three patients who could be evaluated show no evidence of cancer. All six showed histologically proven cancer prior to undergoing treatment. Further study is ongoing.!
