The “ASJ RTN-Model” is a model for predicting road traffic noise published by theAcoustical Society of Japan. This model is widely used in Japan for environmental impactassessment (EIA). The ASJ RTN-Model has multiple correction terms and parameters,which must be set by the person in charge of prediction for each EIA project. How the“ASJ RTN-Model” has been used in EIAs up to now has not been clarified, andinformation on how to set the parameters has not been shared. The objective of this articleis to report how the “ASJ RTN-Model” is used in EIAs, as well as to summarize issuesrelated to its use in an EIA. The methods used to set the parameters in the predictioncalculations of 49 EIA reports were summarized and analyzed. This analysis showed thatthe parameters, including the calculation lane positions, type of ground, and predictionpoints, were set according to the nature of the project, such as a road structure. We expectthis article to provide valuable information on improving the quality of road traffic noiseprediction in EIAs.
