In an ideal vision risk management seems to represent actions in a closed loop ranging from risk identification, establishment of risk policy, via risk evaluation and assessment toward risk control and verification of the compliance with the established risk targets. The paper is dealing with some fundamentals in this context, the practical status of these various steps in the loop and it presents insights and reflections on that. In particular, methodologies and basic modellings for risk identification and assessment policies, for risk control measures and goal settings are discussed. Some practical examples from nuclear industry and other technologies are given. In the Resume observations in the field are summarised, and similarities and differences across technologies in the field of quantitative risk assessment are shown.
