Hydrogen (H_2) is expected to be a major energy in the future, since it produces no pollutions. To meet the needs of H_2 energy all over the world, H_2 production must use every available resources including coal which is the largest stored energy in earth. Conventional hydrogen production from coal is first to produce a synthesis gas including CO, CO_2, H_2, and CH_4. Consequently, several purification steps such as sulfur removal, shift CO, CO_2 separation and methanation are needed. Process is complicated by these multiple reaction steps and operating conditions. HyPr-RING method was proposed a few years ago. This method suggested to integrate the exothermic and endothermic, the gas production and separation reactions in one reactor, to produce H_2 with one step. CaO sorbent was used to remove CO_2 as well as CO completely during coal gasification. Fis.1 shows the concept of HyPr-RING method.
