EFFECT OF NANODIATOMITE ON GROWTH, QUALITY AND YIELD OF AMARANTH

A lower benefit from using more fertilizer appeared in some regions. Recent research has proved that medium trace element fertilizers play the important roles in the agriculture production and supplementary application of silicon positively influences many aspects of plant growth. Inspired by the properties and applications, diatomite-based fertilizers have been investigated in the last few years. Nano diatomite materials have not been introduced into fertilizer. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of foliar application of diatomite or nano-diatomite on yield and chemical composition of plant as compared to control. The pot experiment was conducted to investigate effects of diatomite with different particle diameter as foliar application on amaranth with 2.0 g urea-based compound fertilizer as base fertilizer, 0.5 g urea as dopdressing. The diatomite was applied as foliar application of different suspension. Nano-diatomite was obtained by the way of milling diatomite in equipment. The morphology has been characterized by SEM (Figure A and B). Growth and quality of amaranth was studied. Figure C illustrated the difference of the biomass. Figure D displayed the content of soluble protein in plant fresh samples. Improvement in the fertilizer efficiency is attributed to the synergistic effect of high activity and silicon composition in nanodiatomite. In conclusions, the diatomite could promote the growth, improve the quality of amaranth and yield.
