摘要

Density flow in reservoir is high sediment - laden flood descends and travels forward below clear water due to difference of density when it enters into reservoir and meets with clear water with certain depth. Density flow is a special form of high sediment - laden flow. Xiaolangdi reservoir of the Yellow River possesses the natural condition of density flow. Timely monitoring and observation of density flow and the scientific reservoir operation scheme can effectively reduce sediment siltation in reservoir, extend the life of water conservancy multi — purpose projects. Density flow occurs rarely and method and experience of effective monitoring and observation is still in shortage. Therefore, 3 - year test and research on monitoring methods and instruments has been developed and the job has been paid back already.
