In the beginning, the complex living environment of tunnel is illustrated and they indicate the difficulty in tunnel maintenance. Because the security of tunnel is seriously threatened by the complex living environment, the research about tunnel maintenance theory never stopped and attained many positive achievements. With the development of science and technology, many new techniques are used and provide enormous help in the process of tunnel maintenance. In the light of the fruits about tunnel maintenance earlier and the experience from other fields, the systematic maintenance is proposed and it is based on this consideration the life-cycle maintenance strategies are suggested.
