Providing Fault-Tolerant Call-Control in the IMS using the RSerPool Architecture

In this paper we show how the operator of an IP-based multimedia subsystem (IMS) can run its call-control nodes using the architecture of reliable server pooling (RSerPool). Using the RSerPool protocols makes it possible to meet the requirements for high availability network operators pose. Furthermore, we show how several networks can interoperate, with special attention paid to keeping network information within the boundaries of each participating IMS. This is achieved by using a stateless SIP proxy, which is known to all interoperating networks.
