The Quaternary strata in the research area, located in the west part of Zoucheng city, Shandong province, can be divided into 3 groups of aquifers and aquifuges according to their water enrichment, namely a top set, a middle set and a bottom set respectively. As a stable aquifuge, the middle set isolates the hydraulic relationship between the top and the bottom aquifers. In the recent years, more than 30 feed wells were drilled in the region of Taiping coalmine. The connective tests indicated the obvious hydraulic connection between feed wells and mine drainage. In order to cut off the recharge from the top set to the bottom set through the wells, the bottom parts of the wells have been sealed and blocked with grouting process. Tests show that the grouting did not affect significantly the hydraulic discharge of wells and can preserve the water resources of the top water-bearing strata.
