The support structure of the hub is the key of the composite structure of new cable-stayed bridge with giant wheel. The hub is the box-shaped beam with the section of 5. 4m × 4m. The features of the support structure are analyzed. The problems in aspects of facture, installation, transport and etc. are studied. The characteristics of the loads are also analyzed. The life time of the support should be calculated. Two kinds of support designs are proposed: the spindle and the balance support. The comparison is made between the two designs. The conclusion is got as follow: the problems of transport and precision of installation should be solved in the spindle design. It is the first time that the balance support used in giant wheel. Its safety should be discussed thoroughly. The contrast is made in aspects of facture, machining, transport and precision of installation between the two designs. The balance support has better plausibility.
