In this paper, research is conducted on structure forms for heavy duty large-span roofs. First, it is shown in this paper that frametruss structures, which are often adopted by designers in China, result in high steel consumption, steep costs and low utilization ratio of the building space, while beam string or truss string structures result in a lower structure stiffness, a lower structural stability in the construction, which calls for higher level of construction techniques, and bring difficulty to the design of the fire-resistance of the structures. But if multi prestressed tubular steel truss(MPTST) structures are adopted for heavy duty large-span roofs, these disadvantages can be avoided. Then, a new computing technology for MPTST structures is introduced in this paper, which can accurately show the behaviors of MPSTS in all stages from initial tension to completed structure. Finally, proper constructional measures are also introduced in this paper, which effectively solves the problems of anticorrosion and fire-resistance of the cable. It can be seen from one practical project that comparing with other structure forms, about 25% to 45% of fabrication cost of the project is saved by adopting MPTST structures.
