Based on the error propagation law, the models of elevation error that exists in triangulated irregular network (TIN) are discussed in this paper. The confidence space of elevation error in TIN is given with the assumption that the elevation error follows the normal distribution, and the indices for measuring the quality of TIN data are also investigated. Meanwhile, considered with the implementation of TIN data in generating contour lines, the error estimation and confidence space of contour lines are as well presented using the similar approach. The fundamental means in this paper is to describe the error of a single triangular element or contour segment at first, followed by their summation to obtain the estimation of the total error.
