In this study, binary mixtures of Fe-Pd powders were prepared by mechanical alloying at room temperature. According to the binary equilibrium phase diagram, solubility of Fe in Pd at room temperature is very limited (only few at.%). However, in this study, it was demonstrated that mechanically alloying yielded single phase of b.c.c. for Fe-30at.%Pd at room temperature. Furthermore, it was found that mechanical alloying drastically increased solubility of Fe in Pd to the value even higher than 60 at.%.
