High Speed Transformation of Ni-C System from FCC to HCP Structure with Fluctuating Mill

The structure change by mechanical alloying of Ni-C powder was examined using a fluctuating milling apparatus. The transformation from fcc-Ni to the hcp-Ni(C) supersaturated solid solution was observed and was faster with cyclic speed, e.g. the single phase of hcp-Ni(C) was formed after 54ks at 800cpm for Ni_(75)C_(25) powder. It was able to prepare more reliable hcp-Ni(C) solid solution powders rapidly than other apparatus.
