Mass movements identification, modeling, analysis and mapping: some experiences in the southern of Brazil, Sao Paulo state

摘要

In the last 10-15 years, many research and practical advances related to mass movements studies have been achieved in different parts of the Brazilian territory. The paper deals with some experiences related to mass movements studies developed in the southern region of Brazil, more specifically in the Sao Paulo state. The basic tasks of these studies were mass movements identification, modeling, analysis and mapping to subsidize different prevention and mitigation measures. The main conclusions proposed point to the intensification of researches related to different approaches of modeling and quantification of slope stability and the use of GIS technologies as basic tool in all steps of these mass movements studies.
