Identifying the Leading Journals on Technological Innovation

Contrary to the previous studies that analyzed citations of all articles in base journals, this article used the topic of technological innovation on a survey of the Social Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index, and Art & Humanities Citation Index. Nearly 500 articles in the technological innovation field were published in 278 journals according to the three indices. For those 87 published in 1998, 2,627 cited references were found. Indicators, such as the number of cited references, cut-off years, and a citation matrix, identified leading journals. Results show that Research Policy ranked first in all indicators. The top ten cited authors in the technological innovation field were also assessed. The rank correlation matrices were used to compare the results of this study with those of previous studies. In addition to confirming the difference in ranking of journals arising from the subjective and objective methods, this study found that the sample size, the selected base journals, different time of survey, and cut-off years were also responsible for the difference.
