EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON BENDING AND SHEAR BEHAVIOR OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS WITH HRB500 STEEL BARS

HRB500 steel bar is a new kind of hot-ribbed bar with higher strength and good ductility, and its characteristic value of yielding strength is 500 MPa. HRB500 steel bar had been described in Chinese national standard "Hot rolled ribbed steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete"(GB1499 - 1998), but has not been included in "Code for design of concrete structures"(GB50010 - 2002) by now, for the lack of test data. In this paper, based on the test results of 9 reinforced concrete beams with HRB500 longitudinal steel bars under bending, and 7 reinforced concrete beams with HRB500 steel stirrups under shear, the bending and shear behavior of the members are discussed in detail. It is indicated that the bending and shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams with HRB500 steel bars are almost the same as common crescent hot-ribbed bars. The bending and shear bearing capacity at ultimate state, the maximum crack width and the deflection at service load of the beams with HRB500 steel bars can be calculated by the formulas sug- gested in the Chinese Design Code GB50010 - 2002. The design values that may be used in calculating the bending and shear bearing capacity of the beams with HRB500 steel bars are also suggested.
