摘要

With increase of light, flexible, low damping and long span or high rise structures, consideration of dynamic effects of wind on these structures have gained more importance. When induced vibrations of a structure or structural member are likely to occur below the design wind speed or when their response amplitude is expected so large as to cause structural damage, functional trouble or human discomfort, some preventive measure have to be taken. In this regard, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) has become one of the widely accepted techniques. In view of this, a mathematical model has been developed for a single degree-of-freedom system and a TMD is added to the basic system, so the whole system will become a two degree-of-freedom system. Stochastic approach has been used for the solution of equations of motion to determine acceleration and displacement response of the structure with different mass ratio and damper' damping subjected to a sinusoidal wind force. It is observed from the present study that TMD system is effective in reducing the response with low value of damper's damping and high value of mass rati-o. Such system will minimize the fear regarding overturning or tilting, resulting psychological comfort to the occupants of the structure.
