Molecular identification and mapping of geographic distribution of food and water-borne parasitic zoonoses in Vietnam focusing on (hybrid) Fasciola; Opisthorchis;Clonorchis; Fasciolopsis; Taenia; Paragonimus and Haplorchis

Sequences of mitochondrial DNA (caxl; nadl), nuclear internal transcribed spactT 2 (ITS-2) and alternatively, ribosomal 18S rDNA were obtained and used as genetic markers for molecular identification and mapping of geographic distribution of the food and water-borne zoonotic parasites, Fasciola spp, Fasciolopsis buski, Opislhorchis viverrini, Clonorchis sinensis, Paragonimus heterotremus and Haplorchis spp in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the complete mtDNA sequence for C. sinensis, O. viverrini, F. gigantica, Fasciolopsis buski was obtained by us which facilitated the molecular investigation of these zoonotic species. For Fasciola spp, over 40 Vietnamese isolates (buffalo, cattle, goat, human) collected, 12 samples were of human origin including miracidia hatched from eggs of infected patients and unusual migratory adults obtained from the skin and breast. For F. buski, 8 samples were collected from humans and pigs in North and South provinces.
