Caidam Basin is a big petroliferous basin in northwest China. It is located between the Ancient Asia tectonic domain and Tibet-Himalayas domain, and surround by Qilian Mountain, Kunlun Mountain and Altun Mountain. As an especial "basin-range" structural framework and lithospheric dynamic circumstance, it is becoming one of geological focuses in the world, and a lot of progress has been made. But there are still some different views in many fields, such as the attribution, formation and evolution of the Caidam Basin, especially, the attribution of the Jurassic-Cretaceous prototype basin. As far as the existing problems of the Caidam Basin are concerned, the author centers around the Caibeiyuan Mesozoic basin and combines structural analysis with sedimentary sequences in order to account for the relation between tectonic activity and sedimentary sequences and reveal the dynamic mechanism of the Caidam Basin.
