Seismic response analysis of a model concrete face rockfill darn(CFRD) was carried out by using the computer program of FLAC. First, static stresses just after the completion of embankment were calculated, and then stresses due to reservoir water loading were computed. The dynamic deformation modulus was determined considering these two superimposed stresses. In the seismic response analysis, five different input motions were used to obtain permanent deformation of CFRD. The friction angle of rockfill was assumed to be dependent on confining pressure. Deformations of the dam and safety factor distribution in the rockfill embankment are shown in the paper.
