To reduce carbon dioxide with high energy efficiency and high reactivity, is essencial to develop novel electrocatalysis. In the present paper the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide in alkaline solution of potassium bicarbonate using Cu-Zn and Cu-Sn alloy is studied. An electrode of carbon paste modified with metal alloys of Cu -Zn and Cu-Sn prepared by mechanical alloying.is used as a working electrode. The electrochemical techniques were cyclic voltammetry and current-time curves. After the electrolysis the reduction products were analyzed by gas chromatography and GC MS. For the alloy Cu-Zn at constant potential from -0.90 v to -1.10V the signal of methanol, ethanol and cetones appear. The products were confirmed with GC MS analysis. Current time experiments ,are performed for studing the performance of the carbon dioxide redution for its application to an amperometric sensor. The current time response to the CO_2 is reproducible .
