ASSESSING RISKS AND ANALYZING TRENDS IN LARGE COLLECTIONS OF CASE HISTORIES BY MEANS OF DATA MINING: Knowledge management as a tool for better risk management

摘要

The paper deals with the issue of extracting knowledge from data from a large database with currently 8000+ case histories dealing with 20.000+ power plant components. The system is a part of the MPA ALIAS system. The concept and its application are shown taking examples dealing with risk-aware replica evaluation and the corresponding determination of time to next inspection. It is shown that lack of knowledge is one of the major sources of risk and, hence, risk management must not be separated from knowledge management.
