Thin ribbons of ferromagnetic shape-memory alloy Ni_(53)Mn_(24)Ga_(23) were prepared by rapid melt quenching and their martensitic and magnetic structure was examined by polarized light microscopy. Multipoint bending method was proposed to study the magnetomechanical and thermal response of the samples. A giant (1.2%) bending strain, due to magnetic field-induced martensitic transformation, has been produced at a constant temperature by the application of a magnetic field of 6 T.
