TOPIC 2: SAFETY PERFORMANCE AND LESSONS LEARNED

In many of the issues brought up at this Conference there is a subtantial amount of harmony and agreement. In general the overall safety performance at the stations has improved, equipment related failures have declined, and the number of events per unit has declined. "Safety first and production next" is the slogan which has been adopted by many operating utilities. The importance of human performance as a key factor for safety operation as well as safety have been recognized as the operator's responsibility. Good operating performance does not necessarily mean safe operation and safety culture but - if the safety culture is present - the performance will improve automatically.
