Field trials were carried out during two successive Winter seasons 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 in order to investigate the yield response and nutrient uptake of wheat cultivar Giza-164 to potassium and sulphur fertilization (0, 24, 48 kg. K_2O/acre, 30 kg S/acre, 24 K + 30 S and 48 K + 30 S). Application of potassium or sulphur fertilizers solely significantly increased the grain and straw yields (ton/acre) compared to the treatments with no fertilizer. However, the plants that received low or high K + 30 S had higher grain and straw yields over the treatments that received K or S as a single dose. The number of spikes/m~2, spike length, as well as 100-grain weight were also increased due to application of 24 or 48 K + 30 S in comparison to the treatments with no fertilizer and/or had a sole K or S. N, P, and K concentrations in shoot were high when plants received low or high K solely or when combined with 30 S as one treatment. Ca concentration was also increased at 48 K + 30 S, whereas Mg content was high at the treatment with 30 S as a sole treatment. Fe, Zn and Mn contents were increased due to application of 24 or 48 K solely, while it reduced at the treatment that received 30 S as one treatment or when combined with 24 or 48 K. Application of 24 or 48 K + 30 S increased N, P and K concentrations in the grains, whereas Ca and Mg were high at the treatments that received low rate of K. Fe, Zn and Mn were increased at 24 or 48 K + 30 S.
