Thus, when a natural humic substance (Hydrohumate) was added to the drinking water of rats exposed to a lengthy stress, its biological activity appeared to raise the adaptability of the animals through mobilization of all parts of the functional system supporting homeostatis of an organism. This greater adaptability appeared related to reduction of the influence of the damaging factor. The primary effect seemed to involve the hemopoetic system and reduced hypoxia, with their associated protective functions. In this connection, a lengthening of Salye's generalized phases of adaptation was observed.
