Field bus networks are widely used in today's industrial control system. Digital data transmission rate can go up to 12 Mbps in some bus standards, e.g. PROFIBUS. The industrial environment usually generates numerous and large transient voltage that disturbs communication systems and may potentially damage equipment. Agilent's high speed CMOS optocouplers are used to protect data integrity and interconnected equipment. In field bus network node, optocouplers are used in between bus transceiver and field device to achieve galvanic isolation. With two power sources available from network bus and local AC line, it is very flexible to tap power to isolation node. Recommended application circuits were discussed for node interface of DeviceNet, PROFIBUS and CC-Link standards.
