LASER SAFETY MANGEMENT IN A RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The laser safety management in a research institute is a complicated task, like a puzzle made of many small pieces that need a lot of patience and skill to joint them together to one complete picture. Missing, or lack, of some pieces leads to fade the clearness and brightness of the whole picture. In this paper, Weizmann Institute of Science, of Rehovot, Israel, will be used to present the laser safety management model in such institutions. The main laser safety topics, such as: the laser products, education and training, individual and environmental protective means, administrative procedures, etc, will be discussed. The specific Israeli labor regulations, concerning the operation of hazardous lasers, will be also presented as the background demands.
