The Phoenix Project: Shifting from oil to Hydrogen with Wartime Speed

Because of the exponential nature of the global energy and environmental problems, The Phoenix Project explains how the transition to a solar-sourced "hydrogen economy" can be implemented with wartime speed (i.e. by 2010). The key is to mass-produce wind-powered electrolysis systems for large-scale hydrogen production and modifying every existing vehicle (including aircraft) to use hydrogen fuel. Approximately, 12 million one-megawatt wind-powered electrolysis systems could provide all of the current U.S. energy requirements (i.e., 100 quads). Given that over 17 million cars and trucks are manufactured in the U.S. each year, and given that wind systems are similar to automobiles from a manufacturing perspective, the 12 million systems, could and should be built and installed within a five or ten year period. Fair Accounting Act legislation is the legislative "trigger mechanism" for shifting to a solar hydrogen economy because it would end subsidies to fossil and nuclear fuels and raise funds for a tax credit strategy to encourage individuals to modify their existing automotive vehicles to use hydrogen fuel. Millions of jobs will be created as the U.S. is transformed into a Saudi Arabia-class energy exporter and every vehicle is modified to use hydrogen, the only non-toxic, non-polluting fuel that is inexhaustible. As such, this "transition of substance" will provide sustainable prosperity without pollution.
