Current and Future Cost Structures of Fuel Cell Technology Alternatives

Numerous announcements about the commercial introduction of fuel cells have been made. In order for this commercialization to be successful, both attractive functionality and cost of the technology must be proved. This paper examines the cost structures of PEMFC and SOFC technologies, compares them, and shows that they could meet the allowable cost targets for several attractive markets. We also identify several developments that may further reduce cost of these systems.
