Effective routing in multihop wireless networks is an interesting problem to solve because of the nature of multihop wireless networks. We use the DSR as an example of on-demand routing protocol for multihop wireless networks to show the effectiveness of cache-enabled scheme. We present the performance evaluation of the enhanced routing scheme of using cached route replies for the DSR. Through simulation analysis, we demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme in an on-demand (reactive) routing protocol. We collect the different performance statistics and show through simulation results that the performance is improved in terms of total traffic, routing traffic (overhead), and route discovery time and download response time. We have used OPNET modeler for simulating our scheme for multihop wireless network.
