摘要

The meager groundwater resources in the Bairasagara watershed Kolar District, Karnataka have been under stress due to large scale pumping to meet the growing demands of agriculture besides the essential requirements of drinking water. This led to serious decline in water levels as well as tapping of deeper and deeper producing zones resulting in the failure of large number of bore wells. Indiscriminate exploitation of this precious resource has been causing decline of water table and depletion in overall groundwater potential. In addition to develop and manage groundwater resources in the area, it is essential to delineate of potential aquifer zones suitable for augmentation of groundwater. Integrated hydrogeological and geophysical studies have been carried out to delineate potential aquifer zones and estimation of groundwater recharge. The' detail of integrated approach is discussed in this paper. The potential zones constitute thicker aquifer zones and comparatively higher recharge in the area. Few sites have been recommended for construction of water harvesting structure for augmentation and development of the ground water resources and drilling of bore wells.
