Environmental Status Of Problem Area-Singrauli

摘要

Environmental issues in Singrauli area acquired a priority status after a comprehensive study by CPCB in early 1991. Subsequently the area being designated as problem area in 1991 and a time-specific action plan being framed, there have been periodic environmental surveillance activities carried out by CPCB. Over the years, while there has been a definite change in approach to management practices by industries and regulatory authorities, yet, because of increase in production capacity in the area, the environmental quality has not shown appreciable sign of improvement. On the contrary, periodic in depth investigations have revealed 'area specific' as well as 'pollutant specific' anomalies, which call for a closer and multi disciplinary surveillance. The present paper brings out the status of environmental quality as monitored during 2002.
