THE CHARACTERISTICS OF URBAN LEISURE ACTIVITIES IN WESTERN CHINA: A CASE STUDY OF YINCHUAN CITY

The paper reports the survey results of a study of features of residents' leisure activities in Yinchuan City of Ningxia Hui nationality Autonomous region, a western city in developing regions of China. Compared with urban residents in developing regions in east of China, features of leisure activities of Yinchuan's residents are: 1) in general, the urban residents in Yinchuan City hold active attitude to tour and have high demand for tour; 2) Recommendation by others is the main access to get tour message; 3) high concentration of visiting destination; 4) a contradiction between high visiting rate and low satisfaction with the visited sites; 5) residents' choice of visiting sites in reality didn't conform to what they intended. The paper indicates that residents' leisure demanding was not satisfied, and less access to tourism information and limited choice of leisure activity are the main influences. And suggestions on tourism developing are stated.
