Contributions of slip induced and pure grain boundary sliding to total sliding are evaluated for the case of deformation of incompatible Zn bicrystals with a general boundary. Slip induced sliding is a result of the motion of grain boundary dislocations (GBDs) originated from the interaction of the boundary with lattice dislocations. Pure sliding is produced by the motion of glissile GBDs generated at the boundary plane under applied shear stresses without participation of intragranular slip. It is shown that at low stresses slip increases the magnitude of sliding more than twice in comparison with pure sliding.
