The development of distributed control concepts is, in general, focused on the attempt to increase the degree of decentralization to the greatest possible extent. This is achieved by not only distributing the hardware and system control, but also the data processing /1,3/. Today, sufficient fieldbus specific configuration tools, which support the user at this task, are available for the mapping of distributed applications on the respective communication system. However, those present configuration tools cannot enable an automatic distribution and an appropriate code generation of an undistributed PLC-application, as the user has to coordinate the data transfer between the hardware components and therefore needs to program each unit separately. This paper describes a new software infrastructure, which make an automatic distribution of the PLC-application to the decentralised bus nodes possible (Figure 2 and 3). The programming of the PLC-Tasks itself is done with tools and methods of the IEC 61131-3 norm/8/. By a consequent shifting of the intelligence as well as its functional allocation to the single nodes, the PLC can be set aside finally.
