It is well known that trace elements affect the properties of superalloy significantly. Various methods have been developed to determine the concentrations of trace elements accurately. The inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) method has several advantages for trace elements determination: simultaneous multielement determination,excellent detection limits, wide Linear dynamic range,and high sample throughput. However, it also presents a number of disadvantages, such as matrix effects and the presence of interferences due to polyatomic ions. In this paper, a procedure for determining trace elements in nickel based superalloy by ICP-MS was described. Both instrument optimization and an internal standard were introduced. Interferences were discussed in details.
