Furnace thermochemical treatments, such as carburizing, nitriding, nitrocarburizing, are well known and widely used in industry. Induction thermochemical processing (INTERPROCESS), a new treatment which is now being implemented in USA industry, has many significant advantages in technology, equipment and effectiveness, and the ability to improve the chemical composition, structure and properties of the surface layers of a metal part. These characteristics are created by induction heating of the part surface to any processing temperature when the part is immersed in a cold liquid active media (LAM) is dissociated directly and only on the surface being treated. These media can contain various active element(s) with variant potentials. Saturation of the metal surface by selected elements in the LAM during high-frequency induction heating is a very rapid and effective way to create useful diffusion protective coatings.
