It is well known that a PAN based carbon fibre reinforced Ni deteriorates due to diffusion of carbon atoms in Ni at the temperature of over 600℃. The reaction is strongly affected by the structure of carbon fibre. No report was, however, found on the composites of pitch based carbon fibre reinforced Ni, though the structure of the carbon fibre is different from the PAN based one. Monofilament composites were fabricated by electrodeposition. The composites were heat treated at the temperature range between 600-1000℃for up to 9 hours. No reaction was observed at the interface between carbon and Ni even at the high temperature as 1000℃. The composites maintained their strength after heat treatment. Then the pitch based carbon fibre reinforced Ni is a promising composite to be used at a higher temperature than PAN based one.
