Agent Oriented Software Development (AOSD) is an emerging paradigm, which promises to be the future of distributed computing. The distributed systems based on agent based systems and Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) can also be error-prone. There also exists another popular paradigm in distributed systems known as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) net-works. In which networks are dependent on some system wide properties, such as hardware plat-form, operating system, communication protocol and programming language. In this paper an over-view of several approaches which use mobile agents for peer and resource discovery in P2P net-works is presented. This paper also proposes a new fault tolerant peer discovery approach which uses self learning mobile agents in a coordinated Multi-Agent based P2P network. These mobile agents can act as a search agent, a wait agent, or a processing agent depending on the varying environ-mental conditions of the network. The proposed approach is based on JXTA, a set of platform and language independent, open peer-to-peer proto-cols. My proposed technique use indirect discovery protocol of JXTA with propagation mechanism and cached advertisement. Multiple clones of mobile agents across the network provide high-level fault tolerant mechanisms for peer discovery.
