Linkintegrity+: A Web Asset Integrity Solution

Link Integrity I is a web asset integrity prototype solution from the IBM Almadcn Research Center in San Jose, California. It aims to significantly improve the integrity of web assets, such as. web pages. hyperlinks, images, server side programs and templates across multiple independent webmaster domains within a geographically distributee intranet of heterogeneous web servers. While there are many solutions that can delect broken links and missing images "after-the-fact". Linkintegrity+ proactively prevents the occurrence of broken links and thereby the irksome "404 file not found" message, It does this by inhibiting any malicious or accidental changes to web pages that could compromise the referential integrity c! web assets, Linkintegrity+'s architecture supports a 2-phase approach to delivering web content--where phase 1 validates the referential integrity of hyperlinks, images, server-side programs and templates, while phase 2 "installs" the web content on the web site in a Iransactionall atomic fashion with minimal transient problems. Linkintlegrity- also supports the enforcement of an organization's guidelines for web content such as the inclusion of appropriate headers/footers and disclaimers. Linklntegnty+ has a notification facility to a/erf webmasters when web pages in their domain are impacted as a result of deletes or update of web pages in another webmaster's domain. The notification system is capable of handling internet links as well via a pinging mechanism that is triggered at user defined intervals. Linklntegnty uses database technology to enforce referential integrity, which thus enables the use of database replication technology to deliver high a vailability websites.
